We’re bringing you a gong bath that’s out of this world.
In this immersive experience, sound artist Simone Salvatici directs an ensemble of musicians exploring the elemental forces that shape both the natural world and the human body.
Across many historical traditions, sound has been understood not simply as something we hear, but as something we physically experience. This journey invites you to explore sound as a deeply sensory and affective experience. It’s inspired by theories of embodied response and ancient systems of knowledge, including Unani – a Graeco-Islamic medicine. In Unani, the elements of earth, water, air and fire were believed to influence the body’s humours and temperaments.
The ensemble creates evolving sonic environments that evoke the qualities of the elements – grounding depth, fluid movement, shimmering air and radiant intensity. They use gongs, Himalayan and crystal singing bowls, resonant metals, reeds, rattles and subtle electronic drones.
As waves of vibration unfold through the space, you’re invited to lie back and experience sound through your whole body as well as through your ears. This contemplative journey transforms listening into a form of attunement, where resonance, sensation and emotion become part of a shared sonic landscape.
